“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6-7).
In Ephesians 2, Paul is speaking of the great change that comes about in Christians’ lives because of God’s great love, bestowed upon us in the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul has described the spiritual bondage that all of us experienced before we trusted in Jesus Christ, and He wants us to live in the reality of our current standing before God that we have through our Lord Jesus Christ. The grace of God is seen throughout Ephesians 2 as Paul demonstrates the marvelous work of God.
God’s grace truly is amazing. We sing about it. We talk about it. We write about it. In Ephesians 2, Paul is telling us to live in the reality of it. God’s grace has changed each Christian. His amazing grace makes a difference in who we are today, tomorrow, and for all eternity, and it also is to make a difference in how we live each day on this earth. As he talks about the eschatological truths concerning God’s work through Jesus Christ, Paul stresses how Christians are to live today as he continues in this great chapter.
God’s grace changes us. It delivers us from the power of Satan and makes us part of God’s family. It does us well to stop and meditate upon God’s great grace intentionally. We cannot allow the lavish grace of God to become mundane to us. God’s grace is precious. May each one of us daily live in its reality.
