Kate’s life has been surrounded by excellent educators. She attended Hampton Park Christian School where she grew academically and spiritually. Her high school Spanish teacher sparked in her a curiosity to learn and she continued her education at Bob Jones University where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education. During that program she met her husband, the now chair of the division of Teacher Education for the School of Education & Human Services at BJU. They settled down in Greenville and she began her teaching career as a middle school Spanish teacher. During this time, her desire grew to pursue excellence in teaching. She sponsored Spanish National Honor Society, wrote curriculum for Greenville County Schools and started working as an adjunct virtual teacher and district wide course author. In 2013, she worked on a curriculum team to author Integrated Performance Assessments for World Languages. She taught all levels of high school Spanish for 10 years before obtaining her Master’s degree in educational technology and was eventually hired as an instructional coach at a focus school with 90% of its students in poverty. A majority of her day is spent working with teachers to improve their classroom practice. This rewarding career is a culmination of her experience thus far. She directly oversees her school’s College and Career Readiness by analyzing data, formulating recovery plans and assisting with student industry certifications. Her leadership team also plans and executes the school’s Theory of Action as part of its focus school plan. Her current training also centers on collaborative teams through her school’s partnership with Solution Tree. She supports teachers through coaching cycles that consist of observation, co-teaching and constructive feedback. She also serves as the technology lead for her instructional coach team and works to integrate technologies into classrooms that emphasize depth of knowledge and collaboration. She ministers in her church as a pianist and music ministry member. She leads Bible studies for women and has a passion for women in leadership. Her desire to raise up a next generation of educators who pursue excellence and honor our Lord by their deeds.
